Health Minister Ross Wiseman has met with a representative of the group of three urologists who will be closing their private office space in the new year. According to a spokesperson for the Health Department, the minister has been told that the urologists have made a business decision to close their office for financial reasons. Eastern Health is still looking into the possible implications for urology patients. According to a sign put up in the Urology Consultants office on 7 Paton Street, Dr. Doug Drover, Dr. Gavin Duffy and Dr. Richard Hewitt will continue to see patients in their hospital clinics.
The implications are not near as concerning as what the daily flow of news is about physicians leaving, closing shop, resigning, and getting fired. Our province is in a state of disrepair and our health care system carries the torch. Each story distributed leaves us with or should leave us with a head full of questions about process!, At the end of the day all we hear however is Health and Community Service say we are looking into it.
It would seem that this particular minister/government spends so much time looking into it, that the question is forgotten before the answer is found. I can imagine the stacks of files on Wisemans desk, years of delayed inquiry, services lost and forgotten, patients misdiagnosed, not diagnosed and some unaware for months and years that they even have problems, because someone forgot to report to the patient.
Newfoundland and Labrador residents will need to start looking themselves. We are getting further away from both comprehendable or quality health care. We live amongst dreamers and liars, we live with false hope and misguided truth.
