A 13 year-old male and a 40 year old man were arrested yesterday in Corner Brook on drug related charges. Police searched two cars in the Herald Avenue area in Corner brook on Dec. 18 at 4:20 p.m. and seized what the police believe to be marijuana, drug paraphernalia and $1,220 cash.
The 13 year-old passenger in one vehicle has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, break of justice undertaking and breach of probation. He remains in custody and will appear in Youth Court in Corner Brook today.
The 40 year-old in the other vehicle was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance. His house was also searched by police, where they found 198 grams of what they believe to be marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.
The 40-year-old faces an additional charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking as a result of the search of his residence.
I am appalled at even being given the opportunity to read this news article. This blog is full of opinion where I speak to other issues and story lines that involve youth, where I suggest this can happen. The reality of this story, is in your face, it's real!
Who is to blame? I am probably the worse person to ask! A few days ago I quoted the King James version of the bible, In the "beginning". Well in the beginning, god gave parents dominion over their children, and while they had dominion these types of stories rarely to never happened! What happened? Who let it and Why?
We as Newfoundlanders & Labradoreans are caught up in a black sea of bureaucracy and bullshit. Legal precedence in a case with Dick should not define how a case with Jane is handled. Though I see the value of the child youth advocate in some instances, it's power takes away from family rights and obligation in raising children. It gives agencies such as Child Youth Services power that our justice system don't even have.
When a child feels they are ready to posses, use and distribute drugs at age thirteen, then that child is caught by law enforcement here lies the normal process:
1. Child's parents are contacted!
2. Child is released to parents!
3. Police by process must contact Child Youth Services!
4. Child Youth Services will contact parents and ask if they need help!
A no answer, I will take care of it, will get you "THE LIST".
1. You cannot spank your child
2. You cannot confine your child
3. You cannot shout at your child
4. You cannot threaten your child with taking things away
5. You cannot take food from your child
6. We cannot take your child, we have no place to put them.
Ladies and Gentlemen, our children become criminals because they know they are protected at least until they turn 16.
We must stand tall, set standards and force policy change that will give parents back the rights to be parents. "We Must Take Back Our Children".
